Pioneer - Lab Ship
- Ship Classification: Non-Commercial (Nonprofit) - L-Science
- Ship Class Code: PSV - Private Science Vessel
- Ship Type: Type-L Science 400dT Civilian
- Ship Model: TL12 Laboratory Ring Build
A highly specialized vessel, the laboratory ship is built to transport scientists and their equipment across the stars in order to conduct research, usually in remote locations. The ship itself is fitted with highly advanced sensors, while a pinnace can carry an ATV down to a planet's surface in order to conduct field expeditions. A special feature of this ship is that it is built so internal gravity can be created by spinning the hull. This is done to permit experiments to be carried out that might otherwise be affected by the gravitic plates installed as standard on all ships.
Cargo:
- Available on Pioneer: 3dT
- Available on Voyager: 23dT, for solid and liquid cargo, if not carrying the ATV.
Quirks:
- Speed increases by one range band
- DM -1 to all repair attempts
- Kitchen Hatch sticks, must hit to open
- Severely Damaged in a previous attack: -10% Hull
- Ship involved in a notorious battle, and has enemies that want to destroy it, Ship contains disturbing psionic echoes
- Power plant makes a chugging sound
- Burnt engine grease smell in galley
18 Standard staterooms
2 Standard staterooms converted to a Med Bay
Fuel Tankage: 82T (40T/Jump, 4 Weeks Power)

Probe Drones (TL9)
Probe drones are for surveying planetary surfaces, and are commonly found on board scout ships. They can be dropped from orbit in disposable entry shells but must be recovered manually. Probe drones are also capable of surveying orbiting satellites, derelicts and other space debris, and can also be used as communications relays.
Each ton dedicated to probe drones contains five drones and costs MCr0.5.
Drones are typically man-sized and have gravitic drives that allow them to operate in both space and atmospheres. However, while they can land on a planet, they do not have the power to travel from the surface to orbit and must be recovered manually. The Electronics (remote ops) skill is required for their use.
Drones have the following profile at Ground scale, in addition to any special rules listed under their descriptions.

Deck plans for Pioneer.
SHOULD THERE BE A SECTION AT THIS POINT FOR ACTUAL
"SHIP ACTIVITY LOG" ???? ===Crockett asks
1104-Pre-Marduk under current Captain of vessel
1104-341 Time stamp- Pioneer enters Marduk system
1104-341 Time stamp - Captain, crew, crew depart Pioneer for Highport and Shuttle
1104-341 Time stamp - Marine Mikhel departs ship for Highport
1104-341 1400 hrs- Marine Crockett boards ship
1104-341 1500 hrs- Marine Mikhel returns to ship
1104-341 Time stamp- Young female allowed entrance for protection
Mid-Day Office Hours
One of the things Captain Solis disliked most about being a captain was people coming to her at all times of the day to solve their problems that had nothing to do with research. To solve this problem she designated one time during the day that she would be available for the ship's residents to answer questions or given advice as deemed necessary. She facticiously called these her "Mid-Day Office Hours" knowing that half of her researchers were just getting out of their quarters by that time, and by hosting when people were likely eating a mid-day meal fewer would have time to visit her.
Starting on 1104-343 the new Ship's Doctor chose this time to be available to the ship's residents also which fit Captain Solis' intention of fewer people searching her out.

for operation of the PIONEER....but realizing there are operating costs someone has to be paying...not his real concern at moment of Day 341 as just arrived.

QUESTION from Crockett on Day 342: As this does NOT seem to be a good situation .... a STEWARD with responsibilities for accounting aboard the PIONEER might have to make some drastic changes in arrangements for couple of next weeks of jump....i.e. reduce standards of living for ALL aboard....(might be doable since we will be in jump) and we need to forego these STATEROOM costs of $18,000 a month somehow Not possible ....Don't think we have our head around JUMP Fuel costs yet????
