Sultana's communicator timer that is synced with the bridge BONGS. This is the first potential time that the ship could emerge from Jump Space. It is always unlikely that it will occur this quickly however Sultana tries to be prepared for most things. During the day he splits time with Mikhel (the only other pilot on the ship) for watching for the alert that emergence is imminent.

1104-349 - 7:00

Message from Captain Solis to Nicola: "Please see me during my listed office hours today. As we near Torpol, we will need to discuss potential conditions of employment per our earlier agreement before we dock."

1104-349 - 12:00

Nicola stops by the Captains office during office hours. "Thank you Captain for having me on board this week. You have been gracious in having me stay and be part of your team. My final comments for other passengers are ready. she hands over the data pad Mikhel had loaned her The abbreviated version for you is Vellueo is just an average Vargr, he really does plan on going back to Marduk after his time here. Shantina seems like she would be an interesting asset for you if you continue to take on passengers. She does give the Pioneer a certain flair. She does not create her own music though, she just pours through recordings to find ones that fit her style. If you found someone to write for her having a singer who incorporates science into her songs would be a nice touch.

(Nicola)"I think you have investigated Yellen more than the others so you know that story the best. I do believe she is who she seems. A producer looking to create famous holovids. She does not seem to lie, she just is willing to not investigate too deeply that what the presenter is saying is backed up by solid reputable evidence. If she does offer you a contract she does fulfill it so it might be an alternative source of income for the Pioneer if you are traveling in the areas she is working in. She seems to have contacts throughout Tobia, the Borderlands, the Torpol cluster and the Oghma cluster so it is likely.

(Nicola)"For the others Silas has fit in well with your crew, he appears to get along well with Crockett and Mikhel. He is quiet and reserved but that is not a bad thing. Those three plus the other non-researcher Sultana seem to be pushing what the Pioneer can do other than research. If you like that.

Wanting to give Nicola the time she promised, she took a moment to go through the notes in a more thorough manner, nodding slightly to herself here or there as she read on. By the end of it, she's drumming her fingers in thought again before looking up at Nicola. Finally, after another moment of assessment, she set the data pad on the desk between them. "The results speak for themself. I do not believe I need to point out the obvious. But I am intrigued by the addition of your ideas. Creative thinking like that can take you quite far."

Putting her arms on the desk and leaning forward a bit, Athena continued, "You have not given me reason to fail your during probation. You may remain on this ship as part of the crew if you would like. As you noted, the others are pushing the limits of the Pioneer, but they do not have your mind of ideas beyond their military experience. Crockett may not be happy about the lack of information on you, but it is a gamble I will take and have taken many times before. I have dealt with failed gambles before, and will do so again if it came to that."

"You may take the time we're docked at Torpol to think over the employment offer, but I have a question before you do. You clearly have talent, Nicola, so how is it you ended up somewhere like Astroburger?"

(Nicola)"Thank you Captain. smiles confidently "I will take the opportunity while at Torpol to explore options. I will reach out to you or Mikhel if I will be joining you for the next leg of your journey. If you take on more passengers and a stateroom is not available I understand, I have spent time in better and worse positions. I thank you for making this last trip as comfortable as possible."

(Nicola)"As for why I am here, where I came from, and why? I can confidently tell you that my father is an unusual man, he has his own ideas for how the universe should work for him and his family. I am not always in sync with his visions but we can never truly break free of our past can we? No matter the lengths we go to make our own path. I have come to understand that you understand that as much as anyone."

(Nicola)"I have enjoyed my time on the Pioneer and I hope that we will spend more time together in the future. Thank you Captain Solis"

"Our past dictates our present, but it should be for us to decide how it defines us," replied Athena, simply. She gave the slightest smile. "I believe intentions matter more than knowing someone's past, but this means I often lock horns with whomever is in charge of security."

With a wave of dismissal, she continued, "Enjoy your time on Torpol. You know when we are scheduled to depart if you do decide to return, and if life takes you elsewhere, let it be to definitions of your choice. If nothing else, you'll at least leave with someone you may contact in the future if the need arises."

"And thank you as well, Nicola. You have been a great asset this week."

Message from Captain Solis to Yellen: "I have given consideration to your proposal. While I do not believe my schedule would currently allow it, I think it reasonable to keep an open line of communication should that change or another opportunity arises. If you wish to discuss this further in person before departing at Torpol, you may seek me during my office hours."

(Yellen)"Captain Solis, so glad you could make time to speak with me. I know just how busy you are, captain of such a prestigious ship, watching over all these researchers, and still managing to publish your own research. It is truly remarkable. I would love to sit down with my backers to find a way to arrange a documentary about you and your team. But I am certain you have had many other requests before, so I will do my best to be patient. Just please give me the opportunity to counter any offer you do get, we do serious work, the kind you deserve.

(Yellen)"I told you before I am helping arrange a few exhibitions currently. If you will be around in these parts of the Reach I would love to have you be part of them. I have plans for have contacts throughout Tobia and the Oghma cluster so it is likely we will be able to work together soon.

Although Athena knew it was simply flattery to get her to be more agreeable, it certainly did not hurt to hear it. Only a small flicker of a smile escaped at most. If nothing else, Yellen did seem worth having as a contact. The question was always how deeply one looked into their subject when doing these holovids and what kind of PR it may, or may not, give herself and the Pioneer.

With a small nod, Athena said, "That is a fair request. As I stated before, I am willing to keep an open line of communication. If you have any proposals you believe may be of interest for myself or my crew, or yourself and your backers put together a compelling documentary idea, please forward them to me. I cannot say when my schedule will clear up for it or where in the Reach I will be in the immediate future, but you may eventually luck out with your timing and persuasion. And if another offer comes through I do decide to seriously consider, I will give you the opportunity to counter it."

"Before we reach Torpol, is there anything else you wish to speak about in person?"

(Yellen)"Thank you Captain, it has been a nice week here on the Pioneer. I will do a little exploring here on Torpol with the Provosts then I will return to Marduk. I hope to have completely funded the expedition for the depths of the oceans there to see if the rumors are true. I will let you know when the funding is secure, I imagine you will be interested in exploring those depths. Your hospitality has been very nice this trip, I hope to see you again soon."

Ignoring the memory of nearly drowning with Eleni, Athena simply gave a nod of dismissal, saying, "I wish you luck in your future ventures until next we meet."
