To Nicola from Ship's Doctor
Nicola, if you have a moment, could you come see me at the Med Bay sometime this morning. Nothing Urgent.

1104-348 - ??:00 (Sometime before noon)

"Nicola! Thank you for making time to see me. I have a request to make, and would like you permission for something."

"You are aware of my concerns about your background. I have means of doing security checks through Imperial Channels. On arrival at Torpol, I will be making inquiries. These are twofold. One is because I want to know who you are. This shouldn't be a surprise to you. The second is one of the reasons I am asking for permission. Well there are two permissions I would like. Let's go with the good thing, first. You know I've been impressed with what you've done for the ship and your interactions with the passengers and the Captain. On that basis, I'd like to nominate you for a job with the Imperial military. Not necessarily joining the military or any Imperial organization. However, there are many things the Imperial needs, and you have a skill set of which the Imperium could make very good use. It could mean sporadic pay. You'd be free to do anything you want, go where-ever you want. You could take other employment, even on this ship. What you'd be doing is information collection. It could be as simple as making a transmission occasionally to a Dropbox in the stars. Once in a while, you might get a request to go somewhere, or attend some event, and report back what you saw. I won't say that this is completely without risk, but that would depend on what/whom you were reporting on. And, you would be able to, for the most part, pick and choose the risk level in advance. If accepted, you might also accept training, or even formal induction into an Imperial organization. It would be up to you. Why I need permission from you is to make that nomination. I'd like you to know I'm making it."

Nicola nods as Mikhel continues.

"The other thing I was going to do, when getting the security check done, was provide information to the agency, to better identify you. And, initially I was going to provide your image, as well as your DNA, from your MediScan. On further consideration, using you DNA from you MediScan is a professional ethics violation, and an abuse of my position as the Ship's Doctor and our Doctor/Patient relationship. The bottom line is I will not do that, without your permission. You don't have to give it, and as a Professional, I will not question your refusal. I will not change my opinion of you, or your performance, in any way. It is likely, now that I think on it, that the organization will do their own scan of you, with, or without, your permission. I don't know whether you giving it to me will change anything in the process. It might do something to sweeten their disposition to you, but I don't know that. I value whatever trust we have built, and I don't want that messed up. I want you to trust me as a Doctor, and for you to know that I will treat you with all the confidentiality to which you are entitled."

"Yes, I want to know as much as I can about you, but I am drawing an ethical line here."

(Nicola)"Mikhel, thank you. I am glad you have lines, it means you have given thought to how you want to travel in your life.

Nicola suddenly leans in and gives Mikhel a quick kiss

(Nicola)"There we have both broken a line so we are now both able to see both sides of them. Holds up a hand to stop Mikhel from protesting " I am confident that your actions are nobly intended and as you think for my best good. I have to admit that I am a bit amused at the idea of serving in the Imperial Navy. My father would either be very overjoyed or horribly distraught. It would depend on the day I suppose.

(Nicola)"I will say that I am going to decline your offer of the medical scans for now. When we arrive at Torpol I will be taking a good look at all of my options. I will let you and the Captain know if I am going to continue on the next leg of your journey with the Pioneer. I am very grateful for your support over these past few days. I am glad that I have gotten to know you and the rest of the Pioneer crew and researchers. I have a much better understanding of who you are and the sort of lives you lead. Your goals and desires. It has been good to see these first hand and be part of this. "

(Nicola)"Thank you for everything Mikhel, I will go fill in my reports for the Captain for the morning. We will say goodbye at the Highport before we leave."

Nicola leaves to her stateroom to compile her notes to present to Captain Solis in the morning.

And it occurs to Mikhel that he didn't get an answer to his questions. Again. However, he did learn a few things. Nicola's father was still alive, and not likely Imperium. Nicola would make an excellent HumInt agent. She didn't really understand the job offer, completely, or dodged that, too.
