Silas had sat up late getting properly acquainted with the V'Hurg controls. He'd had a bit to drink the night before, which gave him energy and even greater curiosity. With some finagling, Silas and Vix figured out how his digital friend could appear via the holographic displays of the Harrier, which brought great amusement to them both!

But now, with a sore head, Astrogation Officer Goldvane plotted the course to Marduk. He liaised with other crew on the Bridge, "See here, if we plan to jump behind the Gas Giant here, in behind, we can remain undetected. Then we set course for refuel, skimming. Full tanks and time to further reconnoitre. Agreed?"

Sultana checks the information being shared. "That looks like a good path to me." To the whole bridge he asks, "What's our status on being able to depart? Fuel, gear, crew & belongings, everything loaded and in place? Last chance for genius ideas before we commit."

[Iskavrin] Iskavrin is at the sensor station, like an ensign. Identifying ever contact the passive sensors take and forwarding the navigational information to astrogation station.

"Let us just remember to place the transponder into silent mode when we enter normal space."

Harison engaged the jump drive when they reached the 100 distance no need to let people know the ship had early jumps.

Khurn, wrapped in a multicolored bathrobe that looked like it had survived a small electrical fire, put down his smart mug and slumped into the small desk chair in his stateroom. His head throbbed like a bad drumline, but at least he finally had time to open and configure his new Comm.

“You’d think someone would’ve invented a clean way to open this crap by now,” he grumbled, squinting at the packaging.

He wrestled with the clamshell packaging like it owed him money. After three failed attempts with a utility knife, he resorted to stabbing it at an angle, only narrowly avoiding adding a “hand injury” to his to-do list. The comm looked cheaper than he'd hoped, but just barely cleared the spec thresholds for what he had planned. He booted it up and began the syncing process. His access permissions to the ship were still limited, but they got him into a crew manual older than most religion, some 2,000-year-old Sindalian document riddled with imperial pomp and formatting decisions made by sadists.

“The Sindalian Empire was terrible,” he said over his shoulder to Rakke, who grunted from his bunk without opening his eyes.

He slid a wafer chip from the Gloamhound into the desk terminal and started pushing its contents to the new device. A few moments later, a sudden high-pitched shriek erupted from the Comm like a banshee stepping on a landmine.

Khurn cursed and slammed the volume down as a pillow bounced off the back of his head.

“Kzethra? You there? What the hell is that alert?”

“Captain, 100% of the Gloamhound systems are offline. You should get to a vacc suit immediately,” came Kzethra’s voice—tight, sharp, more panicked than Khurn had ever heard from her.

“Relax,” he said, rubbing his temple. “You’ve been moved to a portable. The Gloamhound’s in storage for now. Get connected to the V’Hurg’s systems and start familiarizing. The ship intellect seems quiet but responsive. Just… careful. The Sindalians were aggressive bastards, and I doubt they skipped that part when writing their A.I.s.”

Kzethra runs a Computer search of V’Hurg Computer System based on Khurn’s Current Permissions of Crewman using extra time.

Khurn addressed his Intellect Kzethra. “Alright, you’ve had some time. What did you find?”

“The V’Hurg’s Intellect is extremely compartmentalized. There is not a lot to see at your permission level Captain. The exact specifications and most systems are redacted. I can however see the general ship layout, the ship’s messaging system, and the maintenance logs and Damage Control. The ship recently had an extensive refit, though there are many existing systems with Amber or Red alerts.”

Kzethra listed the issues she was able to identify.

“That’s a lot. How is the refinery? I saw them pumping refined fuel when we reported”

“Neither refinery system has active alerts” Kzethra answered.

Khurn thought for a moment. He had still not been briefed on the full operational details. The fact that they purchased refined fuel told him they were on a time crunch. The passenger lady Blaine seemed familiar somehow as well.

“Alright, we have some time before our first shift. Let’s learn the ship by doing some maintenance. Pull up that Sindalin Crew Manual and let’s get going. Let’s start with an inventory of the ship’s locker?”

Khurn knew that knowing the layout and contents of the ship sometimes meant life or death, the Vhurg was not an Armed trader\Armed courier no matter what anyone said.

[SKILL] Khurn Investigates the Ship Locker: -2 vs Difficulty 6 (2d6= 1+4-2= 3) +-3 Effect Average Failure Time 40 minutes

Kzethra returns a hit on Margaret Blaine as being an infamous pirate throughout the Trojan Reach a couple of decades ago. Likely someone using the name as an alias?

The Ship's Locker search hits a dead wall as Khurn sees only the basic emergency vacc suits and O2 canisters are locked up and he was not given the codes.

Khurn moves on to general maintenance while noting where important equipment and access panels are located.

Khurn has Kzethra assist him with a task chain using Sindalin Manual and Elec (Computer): Skill 0, Int+1, Agent+1 = +2, Difficulty (Extra Time) 6, 2d6+2 = ???, Effect: ??? Time: ???
Khurn uses Mechanic to start maintenance and learn the ship. Maintenance 0, INT +1, Task MOD ???, Difficulty (Extra Time) 6, 2d6+???, Effect: ???, Time: ???

Khurn finds occasional panels locked. He spends two hours combing through the ship and gets a good understanding of the Engineering section, Life support, etc. It seems that he has access to everything for maintenance and repair but is locked out of activation sections. He cannot initiate a Jump, he can not shut off life support, etc. Some of the designs are very esoteric. Why a gold embossed cover over an access port that is already behind a panel gilded with the Sindalin crest? After his deep dive Khurn believes he can handle working the Harrier.
