[UP EARLY and excited about new chapter...He's up extra early to attend this final meetup with the 'Circle of Five' that seems to be some kind of rah rah session aboard the PIONEER...He'll attend but wants to get back for morning coffee aboard The UNITY here asap.//

1105-02- 07:00 [Crockett returns from interesting session aboard The Pioneer immediately heads for galley for morning coffee expecting to see Administrative Aide DAR with a cup already in her hand.]

"Good morning DAR....I've just been up a little early this day saying Good Bye to some acquaintances out on The Pioneer, but it didn't take long and I'm back now and ready for our return trip to Torpol. But before I start my coffee I want to thank you for your assistance over dinner last night. I'm very pleased to have an arrangement with Provost Falx in place and am very much looking forward to my new challenge. THANK YOU again."

[further to DAR over coffee] after 0700

Oh...and a special request before we depart this morning...I am wondering DAR if you might escort me or organize an escort for me to the cargo hold so I might check for myself that the containers in my name are still sealed and aboard. They include some equipment, a vacc suit, and a larger crate that contains special a "Special Boarding Armor" suit.

(Dar)"I will be glad to take you there now, we are about to get an early start so they can bring the Harrier in to replace us on the Royal Docks. We should be leaving in a few minutes."

Copy that DAR...Let's get it done...

1105-002 08:00

[Presumably Crockett has an assigned cabin still, has been happy with his trip to cargo with DAR to check out his crates, and is in healthy condition for jump]

Morning Meeting - 06:00 - Pioneer Common Area

Sorry for the subterfuge for bringing everyone here. I think we all have been looking at this the wrong way. But if we all want to go our separate ways and be happy being errand boys for the king and his court so be it. I see some have chosen to part ways already a shame but I hold no ill will to any who has or will we are all free to decide for ourselves I have a idea for a plan we could all work on this is a frame work and is open to change and input from all.

I believe we have a real opportunity to do good and great things for the Trojan Reach as a whole. The real big scary thing in the sector is the cats on the border. It’s not a matter of if but when they will come for the planets in the sector, the empire knows this and keeps this area as a buffer to buy them time for when they start making an advance. Land grabbing is just in their culture and nature. So I have planned to try and stop this raise up the sector make it a better place for everyone living here, expand knowledge and make money.

Now I know the king wants us all to be pirates and retake all the worlds that they lost. But I don’t want to make history repeat itself for a third time. The Sindal empire was founded by planets coming together to protect from piracy and Raiders. And it worked they became a technological and military powerhouse of the area but their greed and cruelty got the better of them and they became worse than the Pirates they were protecting people from. They used biological weapons bombardment from space to keep people inline and then the people rebel and the Empire fell. Dranix managed to survive and hold onto the sectors around it but it did no better. It too was greedy and taxed trade to the point where the Aslan glassed the planet. Now the King wants to get back what is RIGHTFULLY THEIRS he still has a map on the table of all the world that used to be in the empire living in past glory not learning from the mistakes. The majority of the planets that used to be in the empire are all doing better now than Dranix. I see a diplomatic alliance with the planets to share resources and knowledge under unified coalition were backing from the third imperial to keep the area safe as a more realistic goal. Keeping trade moving and The Aslan at bay or having a hard speed bump for there advance.
Now in all the talks with people of power in the palace I don’t think once they ever talks about helping their people giving them better lives that’s all chucking for their position playing up to the king to get a better title and grown the empire so everybody knows how great they are. I think we can insert ourselves into key areas here and shape the trajectory and future of the planet.

Imagine the good Mikhel and Athena the two of you could do with the knowledge from scholars tower but what if you were running it and not spending 20 years and trying to bring back one person. Another example of the royal family extending their lives over the betterment and well-being of their people.
For the five main things I think we would need to focus on at the start and all of these can happen at the start but will be goals that the others will be working towards and then other people would take over. But as we control each individual and they become reliant on one. We can stop it if they start interfering with the others.

So money we need an influx of it and this is the part that is not as nice is to run with the piracy it keeps the king happy and offer our back. We can agree to only hit high value targets, smugglers criminals take a small percentage of the profits from the gentleman traders and not ruining their business. And anyone that’s doing any criminal activity we’re just take them for all they are worth. No killing or serious injury. I would hope Mikhel would be ok with this not asking you to be involved at that end just giving you my word of were the line is. Now this piracy was also what have a double function we would only attack things on the jump two trade route to the Aslan Empire from fist. Making this less safe would mean people who will come along the Florentine route and then turn off to Dranix and then move into the Aslan territories. I have a more thought plan on these lines but it’s not necessary to discuss it here. Just give you an outline.

This leads us to one of the second things we need to focus on the Aslan clan at Khusai jump2 away from us now they want to go back to a conquer way, but I think that’s because they’re not making any money from trading. So this is one of the big diplomatic missions that would have to be done is show them they can make money from trade and have a better life like the other clan in Tyokh. The other diplomatic missions will be other worlds to get them on board with an alliance, but we need to show something first. I also have a plan to get a bigger ship and use that as the diplomatic vessel and refurbishes to look more grand, maybe have the history of Dranix on it in the meeting room and so on so so. This is some thing I can see Sultana doing with his skills in diplomacy and being a Noble himself he fits that bill of representing Dranix and being an imperial people will see them as being more impartial than a Dranix so he’ll be more believable that he wants an alliance and not to take over. This I don’t think I would be suited to at all I got in a heated discussion with our medical professional within the first two days of being on the Pioneer. Then two days on Dranix I think the XO wants to kill me so I’m not the best at making friends in new places.

So third thing would be moving people off the floating Palace to Asim to make room for incoming traffic after a week in jump space people don’t want to stay on the ship we need to get a restaurant, bar and Casino in the docks on the palace. We want the place to be inviting and fun for people to visit. We will also want to control the Revenue coming in through here renting the space so the king get some money coming in but he should be getting a good bit of money from taxing trade, fuel and docking fees.
Fourth would be getting that ship out in space and starting getting people in to work on the mines this would be Mikhel baby we will bring outside people in to do this so they’ll be loyal to him. We would get some agreement with the king that a small portion of ore would go to him and some payment for the rights to mine it. This is where their creed might get the better of them and then I try to push you out. And this is more than we can exert our influence and stop everything else and I know that we won’t stand for that. We we will also try and get back Silas scout ship as this could be used to find places to mine in the Astro belt and also on planet in the system.

The last thing would be getting surplus ships to patrol the area between here and Asim. We would staff them with people loyal to us and pay them well this will be used as bargaining when we go to get backing from the third imperium. Saying the Dranix fleet of ships and ships from the other member alliances to protect the area will be under the commands of a former imperial admiral with many former imperial Navy officers captaining the ships in the fleet. Will be very favourable as they would have a history of being loyal to the empire.

Now this is all just a rough out line people may think they are better for some of the jobs or not want to do them and that’s fine. This is just me putting it out there that we can all work together and making this area better place and also as a greedy side getting something out for ourselves. I can see us being all very important members at the court being the power behind the throne. And leaders in the alliance of planets not being tied to a planet makes us neutral.

As all ways this is just an outline a plan to move forward but it’s open to change and there’s things I’ve missed and things people have better ideas about like the pioneer I don’t want to tell the captain of the ship what they should be doing but again I don’t have an actual proactive plan for what it can do I know it can solve problems if they come up, but I can’t make those problems appear. This is where input and team work are vital. Now this plan might not be for everyone I understand that I have tried to accommodate everyone morals but in essence this is a plan to infiltrate the power structure of Dranix use that to implement our goals. I do believe the royal family on the court have no real interest in the betterment of its peoples plight.

Now if people see this as a bad idea or want no involvement we can just leave it hear and say no more about it I just wanted to bring it to the group to see if it some thing we could work together on.

Mulling over the Admiral's words, Mikhel is impressed. The Admiral has the scope of the situation pretty much as Mikhel viewed it. He hit all the important points, including the mining. If Mikhel seriously twisted the Code, the 'taking from others' might be vaguely acceptable. Threaten, but don't actually do violence? If the V'hurg never shot first... Stars, but that is pushing the Code beyond limits. Targets would have to be 'evil', sophonts that were obviously not serving the greater good. We need an intell group to vet targets. And Drinax doesn't have that. Oh! Blaine would know sophonts all over the place.... Hmmm...

Sultana nods. "Thank you, Admiral. That is, essentially, the tack I've been trying to aim for, but I don't know how good a job I've done at communicating it. You also have more details worked out than I'd been able to do. This is exactly why I wanted to recruit you to the group, to provide this kind of planning and analysis. I'm sure we'll need to refine the details along the way, but I don't think I heard any issues with the general outline you provided. We might be able to make some of our early materiel-gathering slightly more palatable by identifying any relatively high-volume piracy spots in this region and attempting to ambush them 'in the act', and then make off with their ship after. Any surviving prisoners could be sent in with the intended victim to face local justice if that's what we'd prefer to do. Finding such a spot and situation would require a lot of planning and luck though."

He looks around at the others. "Any other comments or suggestions? We're open to all ideas. The various groups are going to have to be out of touch with each other for long periods of time, so any bright ideas need to be made before we all split up."

"I have not had much of an opportunity to voice my opinions to date, and have not had a full understanding of the situation until now. Having slept on this, if you could call it sleep - my excitement got the best of me... I have always actually seen my position, and now that of the V'Hurg, as a privateer. A protector of sophonts in the Reach. Kind of policing the area around Drinax and lessening pirating. Creating safe trade routes, whilst preying on those that threaten peace and prosperity. Some perpetrators that come to mind are the Oghman raiders, and other colloquial and narrow-minded folk."

"I agree with Admiral Harison's and other's sentiments of advancing the economic and social factors of the 'Kingdom', slowly building up strength and allies while gaining greater control of the subsector. There is no Kingdom as the King knows it. The member worlds do not classify themselves as Drinaxian or Sindalian. That might come politically as Drinax becomes able to offer protection, or other benefit, or possibly membership of allied worlds, or building trade routes, or increasing tech levels..."

"However, I also acknowledge that our task cannot necessarily all be completed under the umbrella of Drinax, I mean acting as open operatives for Drinax, as it would draw too much attention straight away, such as from Imperium or Aslan Hierate. We must tread carefully and not draw attention until we have established a position of power."

"In all honesty, I bear a grudge for the Oghman raiders. They owe me a ship, and I regret its loss. But reclaiming that ship, the IISS Buscador, would add to our fleet and lessen the powers of the raiders. I will strive to get it back."

"I have significant aversion to dealing with M. Blaine, but the information source for pirates in general, and this region in particular will be invaluable. Especially if Captain Sir Sultana and crew want either to be, or to hunt, pirates. I'm sure M. Blaine can advise you tactically, and possibly strategically. Get your feet wet with her, and take up the benevolent role of pirate hunters, and I could be a crew member. If this 200 year old battle-damaged, cold-soaked hulk is serviceable to jump, that is."

"Mikhel I 100% understand your view point of not working with her. I kinda envisioned you heading up the mining operation and when we get back from this mission we get that ship back for you and have some funds the get it working again. I know that’s going to be over 4 weeks with this mission the King has us running but in that time you could look at hammering out a favourable deal for mining rights also we would need to find a buyer for what ever is out there. Look at hiring a crew too may be evening miners with a mining ship. I my self do not know much about that business. I am also interested in seeing how the people on Asim are treated what their lives are like now and what they were like before the occupation this would be a great insight into how they treat other people."

"We also have Martin Blacke in board I believe he was an intelligence officer law enforcement generally tends to know who the bad guys are and some times are unable to get enough to search their ships. We don’t have to jump to red tape. If we know the bad guys have a ship we can just go for it.He might be able to do recon on criminal enterprises for targets."

"I think your right Silas we can’t do it all under the banner of Dranix. That’s why I think we should set up as independent companies like the mining should be a business not Dranix operation. We will need money to fuel a fleet of ships so I think a portion of the ships should be used as traders with them making money to pay for a fleet. Again, we would set up a trading company and a mercenary company. Then when we go to align the planets we are doing it as a business collaborate looking after our interests in the area."

"I believe we should set a date and place to meet up to discuss plans, progress, problems we have encountered any new possibilities or Idea that we have come across. I was thinking in a year at Torpal as it’s a party plant our ships being there for new year would not be suspicious also we can give any crew not in on the plan yet shore leave to celebrate new years and old crew mates meeting up to share a drink would all so not be suspicious. Now that’s not to say we can’t be in contact over that time if we need help with different things or we come across opportunities that other people would be better suited that we can’t reach out. This would be a review of progress. Not expecting loads of of progress in a year but that we have ground work and some plans in motion."

”Your outline is a good one, Admiral. The only part that I believe desperately needs work is a key word you keep using: loyalty. How do you plan to gain it? Some are only loyal to money. We have seen that, and you will gain crew that is loyal to you as long as you have a hefty paycheck for them, but money comes and goes. Better opportunities hold like water and flow like a river. Once those opportunities vanish, what of those people? Do not get me wrong. You need to start somewhere, but long term? Anyone to be brought into the Empire needs a reason to stay that lasts longer than material promises. They need culture, arts, reason, relationships, and ties. You do not want them to just let you fight their wars for them, but to give them reason to fight them, too. They will need to not just believe in their homeland, but eventually, the Empire when it is rebuilt.”

”The Lieutenant has some experience with diplomacy, it is always a starting ground, too, but you will need, eventually, to think about not just getting people on this side, but keeping them here. You don’t just need hard diplomacy, but soft skills as well. Much as I have done with my researchers who, despite the unpredictability of chasing science, remain on board. And this is where I believe The Pioneer can be an asset to consider. We are used to building up with limited funding, working on grand ideas without a cash flow.”

”I doubt you’ll get all to leave the Floating Palace, but I do agree on building it up. They have no ways to build much infrastructure currently, but that does not mean you cannot have tourism. That is one of my plans. There is plenty to see on other worlds we can bring here, ways to make the Floating Palace a much more interesting place to visit. I have one lead already regarding that. There is plenty of opportunity in food tourism, and given their appreciation of Baron Hernández , good opportunity for them to be agreeable to this starting point. And the Scholar’s Tower? Make it a destination for bright minds through renovation and improved PR. I have an opportunity for a documentary I am now likely to take up as, while I hate such shallow fame, it may help Drinax by association if I build up my reputation more while I work with Drinax.”

Athena gives a light wave of her hand, “But all those details matter little to this group. Suffice to say, The Pioneer will be focused on trying to give any you bring in, a reason to stay in. But what you can do for me, as you’ll likely be traveling The Reaches farther than I, for the moment, is keep an eye out for anything that may be of scientific interest. A specimen that survives in a harsh setting we may find around here. A parasite spreading disease, or benefit, to a populace. An alcoholic brew so mind-blowingly delicious you want to see if we can not just recreate it, but make it better. Or even a potential weakness with the Aslan you want to try to exploit. Whether a snippet of genetic material or a full sample, bring what is of interest and full of potential possibility back and let us see what we can do with it. And if you see other opportunities for our researchers, perhaps a place for them to visit or study in-depth, pass the word to us. Whether before or after our Torpol meet up, it does not matter.”

Tennyson looked alert, her eyes flick from speaker to speaker. Evidently she doesn't have anything to add to the discussion in progress.

And why not?

Because she's thinking of how to tinker with the whiskey-making process she's trying to improve. But keeps running into the same limitations... she needs a better quality ingredients. Hells, old fashioned corn would be a sight better than what she's managed to get her hands on... and let's not skip the last two barley sacks had frikken weevils. Maybe the water? Maybe there's some mineral or other impurities she could introduce - wait. Somebody said alcohol?

False alarm, that's Athena waxing philosophical... well, what about the brandy then. The broccoli brandy was an outright disaster...

Listening to Athena and her grand plan, Silas wondered whether he would be better off aboard the Pioneer! The opportunities she spoke of were exciting!

"I certainly will be scanning for opportunities as we travel and look forward to reporting back. Likewise I’d appreciate hearing of your endeavours. What you have planned is very exciting!"

Silas realised that this meeting was a farewell of sorts so he bid his former Captain well on her journey. "Thank you for having me aboard and including me in this crazy venture! Drinax will never be the same again..."

He joked to make light of their situation, although he speculated on the future success of the V’Hurg given that the crew were so disparate in their opinions. 'Should he have gone with the Pioneer!?!' He forced his mind to change tack as he considered Harison’s points.\\
He liked the sound of setting up companies as they would need lots of credit to build a fleet!

Checking in on the prospects of people in nearby systems likewise seemed the right thing to do. "A kingdom's people are its most important part," he validated Harison’s viewpoint.

"Yes, let’s meet in a year’s time on Torpol where we can buy a bowl of Provost’s Punch and celebrate our successes!"

"On a personal note thank you for having me on board even if it was for a short time but I think we can actually do great things and shape the sector of space for the better. Even if it feels a little under handed, I think the end results would be a better safer region even if it is not what some people envisioned it to be they won’t be able to say there not in a better state than we found them. I look forward to seeing what every one has accomplished in the next year I know it’ll only be small steps but every great journey starts with small steps."

"M. Dawn, thank you for taking on this commission. With members of the Navy participating, perhaps leading, hopefully with the ethics of the Imperium, I have a lot more confidence in where this is going. The biggest goal is holding back the Aslan. The only way that works, if at all, long term, is if the Outrim Void bands together. Trading one brutal overlord for another doesn't work. Winning hearts and minds does. I am going to sound out the Prince to see which way he is leaning, as I feel he tends towards benevolence."

"I wish the crew of the V'hurg well and that you are successful in helping kick start this Kingdom in the right direction."

"Thank you Mikhel for your vote of confidence I hope we don’t let you down. Yes I would be very interested to see if a 20 year coma would change his out look on conquering planets."

"I wish you all luck as well. Even if short, your time here, all of you, was appreciated, especially as we work collectively, even if separately, on something bigger than us." With a quizzical look, she asked, "Although, I have yet to hear your final destination, Mikhel? I know it will not be the V'Hurg, but with the Unity soon to depart, I have yet to hear if you're leaving my crew as well this morning."

"The Prince rebuffed my feeble attempt to gather information. I'm rudderless in my attempt to get "authorization/permission" to negotiate anything for mining. No point in going to Torpol, if miners are not welcome here. It appears that the King is the only one to make any decision about anything in this system." Mikhel frowns.

"The Prince also completely ignored my offer of assistance or companionship. Admittedly, it was a flawed attempt at best. I suspect that the presence of Scholar Voha, as well as ongoing Court intrigue, was too much an influence for him to even consider the gesture."

"I currently don't have immediate plans, lacking a clear path to any present goals."

”Ah. I wasn’t certain if you had thought to go to Torpol for your mining scheme or if you were helping Crockett with whatever he has going on. Either way, I do like knowing if I am losing crew before I lose them as simple courtesy. All I ask if to inform me if or when our paths are going to divert.” She gives Mikhel a small, apologetic and almost condescending smile. “And having heard that attempt, I would surmise it was your approach more than anything else. Were someone I have not interacted with suddenly ask if they could be my friend, I would be highly suspicious of their motives. Do they want access to my research? Or, in the case of the prince, is this someone who simply feels pity for me? And that does not consider all the extra caution someone of royalty would additionally need. You do not make friends by asking.” With a flicker of her eyes to Eleni, an imagined wink, she finishes, “You make friends by being stranded on a raft in an ocean and working together to survive.”

Tepawabpeperfobaweafe looked down at his datapad. He didn't understand what everyone was so obsessed with. Another Empire. The stars would still be here long after this Empire fell, just as each one had fallen before, and each currently standing would fall. The stars would remain. The bwap started to slowly walk away as he pulled up a file on a he had been working on, a thesis on the ripple effect of the cycle of star death and rebirth and the effects of invisible matter in the contraction and expansion of the universe. The droning behind served the same purpose of the universal hum.

"I was a bit at a loss on arranging any opportunity to unobtrusively move into the Prince's entourage. And especially, I was feeling very rushed. I hope never to be stranded in any raft with anyone. Sounds horrifying. My condolances to you both.
As to if and when I leave the Pioneer, I hope to have some advanced warning. The V'hurg should have been where I went. That was the intent, on entering the Drinax System. I had considerable misgivings about the mechanical welfare of the jump drives, and expected that to be the deciding factor. M. Blaine's appearance made that issue irrelevant."

"Most interesting Harrison I must say.... finally we all hear a PLAN we can get onboard with. I wish I'd realized earlier want a gem you were...most valuable and wise counsel I must say. It doesn't change my own plan to return to the UNITY now though and prepare for my return to TORPOL. I thank you very much for this encouragement though and hope to hear from Sultana and his harrier crew again wherever the stars may kind you. I meanwhile bid you all good morning and take my leave."

Tennyson picks up her datapad and flicks her eyes to it... then acts like she's taking notes...

"Hey Tep!" She types out the message to the alien sophont. "How's the room humidity doing? I've got the requisition for new HVAC equipment filled out and ready for your signature. I just wanna make sure you wanna make it. It's a bit pricey but should do the trick if nothing else will."

"Mikhel I think it was a fine approach to the Prince we don’t know what way his being pulled id his against his Father’s plans he can’t be open about it also the other people around him might have there own agendas. You have put the offer out there he may reach out to you in private. Any one who’s been watching us here has seen you looking after people in the race with your medpack and know you care more about people. As for what he said about minging rights and that the others wanted to make money out of it well that’s how these thing work I think it’s a bit naive to think they can get people to mine it for free. There getting nothing out of it now if they were getting a fee every month or year for mining rights and 5% of the raw ore they be getting some thing were as now there getting nothing. Other people making money does not mean it’s bad for you they also make money selling fuel and food to the mining operation too."

"Even I have an agenda in trying to get close to the Prince. It just doesn't involve trying to get an advantage over anyone on Drinax. The Prince doesn't know me, other than anything he might have learned from his sister. If he even trusts her."

"I briefly considered going to Torpol and putting together a group to come and make an offer to Drinax for starting up a mining operation. It is a chicken/egg proposition. However, if the organisation or company doesn't bring resources and money with them, Drinax can't start up an operation on its own. As I see this, without some initial idea of what Drinax would want as their cut, it would be a waste of time and money to show up, let alone even doing a survey. It looks like the King is the only person that starts this process, and I don't know how to approach him."

"Ask for a meeting at his earliest convenience. Just tell him you have been tasked with looking into alternative ways to raise up Dranix and get another source of revenue to help repair the harrier to better complete its mission with a byproduct of increased traffic into the kingdom so he can make money off selling fuel and other services to the influx of miners and traders. Also it would be a steady income from the mining rights. With you goal to be funding other ventures with similar goals after the harrier is fixed up. Now I am not saying you should use any of the profits for this just that the outline is saying the kings plan is great and it’s the main priority this plan is to help his harrier plan get off the ground faster and be more effective. If you can lockdown the terms of the rights to the mining you control it so when getting people to mine you know what you can offer them. At the moment that mine is making no money so his getting nothing out of it. If you get it operational and his making something out of it that’s more than they had to day and then it opens up more ways to make money from the miners."

"Why not go on the V'Hurg tour tomorrow? The king will be there, but once Blaine and this crew leave, you will possibly have a short window of time to talk with the king mostly alone before returning to the Pioneer. You may have to contend with Wrax, but he may be someone who could be on your side as well. The king already believes you are part of the crew. Simply tell him you are, but not yet for this portion as you were tasked with the mines, or something of that effect."

"M. Dawn, we are thinking very much alike. I'm concerned for your mental health. Doctor Solis, I wasn't going to attend the V'hurg tour, to distance myself from M. Blaine. However, if I want to advance the plan, it looks like the only path forward. Thank you for the insight."

"That run yesterday must have dislodged something I’ll have to get it looked at."He gives Mikhel a smile. "But I think Athena has hit it on the head that’s a great time for the approach he be in a good mood seeing his plan going into action."

"If you absolutely need it, you can use the Suraksha to get around in the system, Dromah. But any scratches on her will come out of your hide, you understand?"

"It would help to survey the mining installation. Scratching the Suraksha might happen. Good reason to get a real ship repair facility up and running."

"I think we all have an idea of what we are all doing. Crockett keep us updated on you where abouts so if we need you we know where to find you. Mikhel If you leave before we get back please let us know where we can contact you. I say the earliest we will be back here is 4-5 weeks if everything going to plan which it never does. Take care everyone and good luck for the next year if we don’t see you before then. Now to get ready for these tours."

Txt: Moderate satisfaction within. Quarters humidity to 93% improved Tepawabpeperfobaweafe can say. Tepawabpeperfobaweafe hope humidity increase continue will. Almost bearable made by increase three percent.

She gives a tiny smirk and types out a response...

"Alright, Tep. Watch for the signature request. Hey. You've got really good translation software running, right? Can you tell what the hells the brass is yammering about? I keep hearing shite like 'greater good of the galaxy' and some 'king' and... I dunno. Maybe you could share your translation software and we could teach it to translate 'Brass'?"

Her smirk expands and she hits Send.

09:45 - Waiting On The Pioneer

”Eleni, remind me why this is an important contract to keep,” prompted Athena as she went through her list on her data pad.

She’d already dismissed most of her researchers so they could return to their labs and their work. The crew as well. No reason to wait around. There were no message about delays, no respect for their time. While the ship ran and she didn’t question it too much (even if the amount of duct tape Tenny went through was questionable), she did know what research was going on and critical timelines. Athena went down the list she had and flicked them off her screen: specimens now waking from anesthesia that couldn’t be shown, reactions of various chemicals that had long passed anything of interest to show, processes and planning that would now be regulated to simple slides, boring talk, and delayed experimenting.

A brief scowl showed. Everyone wanted science to be flashy, but now that opportunity had passed. More, she had meddled with her own experiments with intent to show except the short, careful window of time she crafted had passed. And here she was, not in her lab doing something useful, but sitting at her desk, Eleni keeping her company, wondering how much longer she’d wait before denying anyone access to her ship.

”I’m certain we can find a grant or submit a proposal to someone who better respects science as well as my time.”

10:00 - Royal Visit to the Pioneer - via the Voyager

The Voyager docks at the Pioneer quietly. As the airlocks open it is apparent who is on board.

LOOK AT THIS SHIP, THIS IS A MASTERPIECE OF ENGINEERING I TELL YOU. WRAX I KEEP SAYING WE NEED ONE OF THESE OLD LAB SHIPS. THEY STILL USE THEM FOR A REASON, HARRICK GET IN HERE AND LOOK AROUND. RAO, YOU SPENT HOW MANY WEEKS HERE? SHOW ME YOUR QUARTERS. King Oleb comes striding into the Pioneer buzzing with excitement. He is looking around avidly at all the spaces, fingers the edge of a fix that Tenny did with an appreciative nod, smiles as he looks at the curving walkway disappearing upwards. CAPTAIN SOLIS GOOD OF YOU TO INVITE US OVER FOR THE DAY. I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE PROGRESS YOU HAVE MADE, STARTING THIS NEW PROJECT IS GOING TO BE SMASHING, JUST WHAT WE NEED. HAVE TO BUILD THE BASE YOU KNOW. He SLAPS Athena on the should with his hand, almost knocking her over. Then he starts down the passageway towards the main laboratories.

(Rao)"Your majesty, this way She calls out and gestures the opposite way to the crew quarters, she smiles at Athena. His Majesty has not been on a working science ship since his academy days "Let me show you my quarters.

Athena Solis: [SKILL]Science(Diplomat) (2D+4) (vs Difficulty 6 [2d6+4 = 15][ +9 Effect] [Exceptional SUCCESS]

Athena knew her ship. Even after hurrying to meet the late guests, cutting off any reply Eleni might have had when they were in her office, and the king barging in, did not phase her. Almost on autopilot, even with her shoulder now sore, the minute the king turned towards the labs, Athena delicately but defiantly stepped in front of him to block his way.

“This area is currently off-limits, your majesty,” prompted Athena, wearing a classic look of disapproval her past students would have recognized (and dreaded). She lightly reached out to turn him around before dropping her arm and keeping as close as appropriate to his side so he couldn’t turn back easily without knocking her over. Truly, it was like dealing with overenthusiastic students again. She gave a nod of acknowledgement to Rao. “We will tour the quarters Princess Rao occupied first.”

Athena took out her datapad as they walked, a frown still evident, as she tackled the second most pressing issues and hoping her hearing was simply damaged from the loudness. “You are late for the tour and some of the agenda previously planned cannot be rescheduled. If you give me an idea of how long you plan to be onboard, I can see what might be rearranged.” Mentally, she crossed her fingers that he didn’t truly mean a full day. She hadn’t had enough coffee for that.

Mikhel trails along, allowing the principles arrange themselves. He was looking for an opening to the Prince, but notes that Eleni, the Pioneer's XO, has taken up his side.

(Lord Wrax)"Captain Solis His Majesty regrets the delay in arrival. I can assure you that we are NOT he scowls at King Oleb's back "staying the entire day. His majesty would certainly want to stay and tour every sample you have to offer. I am positive that the Princess can give him a satisfactory report on the abilities your ship can provide. How long would it take for you to go to Asim and do an assay of the potential improvements you can do there? Or did you have another location to pursue on your plans?"

”Per verbal agreement with Princess Rao, you will have other opportunities to visit for a slated time of a year. Beyond that would require further discussion,” said Athena as she tapped her data pad and planned out a new agenda to send to her crew. If nothing else, it was for their sake as Eleni splintered off so the researchers weren’t interrupted multiple times. Keeping the scientists happy was always her main priority.

Tep, Baron Hernández , Jorn… who else could she bother last minute without their time being wasted as well? Who would have something to show for the moment? She shoved her irritation down further. She had work to carry out for now of satisfying her guests and then getting them gone.

After sending out her requests, figuring at least Tep had research field that moved far slower than them, she blinked and looked up from her pad, glancing from Rao and turning towards Wrax. “Reaching Asim will be easy, but until I am there in person, I cannot yet give a timeline of ideas for improvements. I do not yet know what improvements would be needed. My other planned locations can wait until Asim. I want to have an idea of what is needed there as I may find solutions elsewhere. I would be willing to discuss some of my work at the end of the main tour and ideas to pursue.”

They turned the corner where Athena stopped and motioned for the Princess to show her previous quarters and discuss her stay. Would they think it shabby or nice? It did not matter. It got the job done.

(Lord Wrax)"Captain Solis I understand you need to be on site to do your assessments. I am asking how quickly can you have the Pioneer ready to depart? I can move His Majesty a bit with him knowing you need to ready the ship to depart."

”All crew are on board. While there are now a few open positions, none are urgently needed to be replaced at this time. Perhaps there will be some on Asim willing to fill those positions. Given some experiments on board need to be secured before Jump, I would say a few hours at the earliest. Your delay means it will take more time to be prepared for Jump as many were intending to show their work for an earlier tour time. We will still see what was prepared and still can be shown as I dislike their time being wasted as much as my own. But,” prompted Athena, fixing Wrax with a gaze. “I will need two things, first.”

”The easy, proper one is making sure the Baroness of Algra-reev is agreeable as the representative to Asim. The second is for Drinax to be clear with your expectations of The Pioneer as well as me. Do I have free reign to do as I want, and you hope to benefit as a result? Or are there deliverables you have in mind? Clarity in such agreements as this are important upfront as I cannot be held accountable for failing expectations that are not told to me.”

(Lord Wrax)"Captain Solis your position is much like Captain Sultana. Until there are clear results His Majesty will both cheer and disavow your actions. With Asim being officially a part of the Kingdom currently you will be authorized to perform what ever duties you feel are necessary for the betterment of Asim as part of the Kingdom. A stronger local government able to better utilize their resources to share for the betterment of everyone in the Kingdom would be a good goal to focus on. I will not tell you what to do, I would rather have you choose your own methods, assign the people you think best, to do what you feel is the right way to accomplish the goals. I understand you are much more focused on the physical sciences, I have heard some of your researchers are also interested in the social sciences, I hope you have access to political science as well. The Harrier crew.... he swallows "the Harrier independent team has the much easier task in my opinion. They succeed or fail spectacularly quicker than your researchers building a better Asim. I have read on your work for the Emerald Development Council. That convinced me that the Princess was right in recruiting you for this task. I am much less worried about your betrayal than I am of the Harrier... team."

”I am loyal to Science, Lord Wrax,” replied Athena with a small chuckle, the tension she held finally having a brief release. “As long as I can do as I see fit then that is what I will do.” She gave a small, dismissive wave. “You can ask Sherris my opinion of the social and political sciences. They are not my favorite, although she has managed to get my attention enough to get a position on the Pioneer, but if it is necessary, I can see whom can be recruited.”

Athena typed another quick message to her crew letting them know of the potential departure for Asim in the evening and allowing any who wished to remain in Drinax for until the return the option – although noting accommodation were lacking.

As she typed, she prompted, “But keep in mind, Lord Wrax, unlike the Harrier Team, who are as of yet unknown, I have a reputation to uphold for myself and this ship. We often face more scrutiny than the military. So you will have to forgive me for making sure the terms are clear, but I appreciate the clarity.”

”Now, shall we continue this tour? I already have a schedule to keep, but it seems it may be a tighter deadline than I initially anticipated. Please feel free to ask any questions as we go, and if you have anyone you wish to send to Asim with us, which I suppose could include students now, I would appreciate that information as soon as possible.”

Athena takes them around the ship giving a basic tour and brief history: the bay now emptied of the Suraksha but still with various lab equipment and parts around, the most interesting port hole from with to look back on Drinax, steps quickened past that old lingering burnt grease smell that was explained away as a classified experiment, her beloved probe drones which were now due for a dusting, a story here about their time in Aki, another there about their time in Intelia.

Sherris is kind enough to allow her lab space and state room be briefly shown. Or perhaps guilted enough as Athena knew Sherris always kept it nice for any probable visitors she had. They are also shown Athena's office – always kept up for appearances. The walls display her degrees and articles, her bookshelf contains journals and textbooks of interest or mentions, and awards sit on her desk as appropriate.

”And this concludes the tour,” said Athena as she started to lead them from her office. “There are light refreshments and a display with more information on various projects from the Pioneer scientists in the common area. You will also get the opportunity to taste the result of an early collaboration between Baron Hernández and myself. As stated earlier, my focus is mainly on biology and genetics including genetic modifications. Hydroponics gets the glory for ease of understanding, but what can be obtained with a bit of knowledge, the right genetics, and some bacteria and yeast are endless. This includes simple proteins such as casein and whey – easy to get yeast to produce. To simplify, there are a few lab grown butters for sampling. A small but welcomed treat on the Pioneer as it can be made fresh with minimal effort and spending, especially when Hernández decides to mix up the composition a bit.” The crew gathers in the common area.

Mikhel, Eleni, and Prince Harrick turn and head towards the Engineering section. (Eleni)"Your highness, I would like to introduce you to some of our other crew who are not directly involved in research. However that would mean no one on board. We are a working SCIENCE ship. Everyone who stays on board with us is expected to produce or move on. We have several interesting projects underway. Is there anything that you are looking to focus on?"

(Harrick)I am happy to see what experiments you have to show. I understand the frustrations of being on your side of one of these tours. Everyone wanting to poke and prod at you, wanting to see what you are doing, who you are, what strange new thing you are about to show them.

The group approaches the Engineer section where Tenny is working.

Tenny knows today isn't a day for heavy maintenance. It's all about shine and polish, busywork to give the brass something to nod and comment on. So she has one of the hallway HVAC maintenance panels open... the one with all real parts and none of that circuit bypass tape nonsense or jerry-rigged transistors made from bits and bobs. So naturally this board is less efficient than the others on the ship. Alas, the sacrifices she makes for appearances.

Anyways she's got a probe in her hands she's using to check the ratings on various parts and connections. So the overall visual is a pretty, high-tech looking parts on the panel and a few gauges that bounce from rating to rating for her and any bystanders to look at as she works. She looks up at the approaching group and makes a show of kicking her toolbox closer to the wall so the 'brass' can pass relatively unmolested. She nods,

"Captain." And formalities dispensed with she returns to... ah, let's call it work.

(Eleni)"Prince Harrick this is one of our lead engineers, Tennyson. They manage all the maintenance on the Pioneer. In addition to their other... research. Tenny tell His Highness about your latest experiments."

She looks closely at one of the random dials and makes a Hmmm sound. Then disconnects the probe and looks up. "Experiments? Ah. Well, I do have a biochemical series running now involving some therolysis and prolysis... it's at a volatile state at the moment or I'd offer to show you." She shrugs.

The diminutive firecracker closes the panel and clicks it secure. "I'm hoping to have some results to show off sometime in the next couple of days. Along with my notes, of course. I'm afraid I'm not very close to being able to publish but I look forward to demonstrating the real world applications!" She reaches down and drops her probe into her metal toolbox and snaps it shut.

Mikhel takes a quick glance at his PDA, and blinks. Bad words! The Captain is advising the crew of a potential departure for Asim in the evening? How am I going to fit my mining plan, vaporware that it currently appears to be, into this? Aggressively button-hole the Prince? Might need to be now or never. I can't see there being anything of mine that would be of interest to the Prince on this tour.

A quick check of Stellar Data for Asim, and there is fuel available at the starport, as well as dipping at a local gas giant. No problem for that, but who is paying for the fuel? Not likely the Drinaxian Government.

"Your Highness, I'm asking again about mining in your system. Your sister says you are the best person to talk to. I want to help, but having no luck at finding a place to start. Can we reboot the mining facility in the asteroid belt? What would that look like to you?"

(Harrick)I would be happy to see that resume under the right auspices. His Majesty was not pleased to see materials sent out of the Kingdom. To restart any activities would require replacing the output availability. Bringing in a large scale fabricator or some means of converting the production from the mines into something that can be used here in the Kingdom.""

"I had this blip of extreme over-optimistic dreaming, of getting a mobile spacedock in to do maintenance work on ships. As a start, and to fix up the V'hurg. If Drinax could crank up a business of refitting ships, upgrading old, or even new low tech, ships to Tech Level 15? That would bring in serious currency. With material available in system. We might have to wait on that, as getting a space dock won't be easy. There is nothing in the Outrim Void. A spacedock will likely have to come from somewhere in the Imperium. But, the bits are here. Resources are here, and the Scholar's Tower has the brains and technical references. The Scholar's Tower could expand their teaching capacity and reputation! Yeah. Dreaming in Holovision." Mikhel shakes his head, eyes on the deck. Mikhel looks up at the Prince. "Small first step? Get the mine operation started, get cash flow, and lots of things can follow. That's my thoughts. What would you like me to try? Where would you like this to go?"

Tennyson makes a last minute check of the area, hefts up her toolbox and starts her way down the corridor. Presumably to the next maintenance task.

(Harrick)"Tennyson is it? How long have you been on the Pioneer? What do you like about working on her?"

He turns to Mikhel

(Harrick)"I think that idea is something that could work very well. One problem I see is that GeDeCo is the Entity whose stated mission is to bring such Starports to the Reach. My Father will never allow them to build in the Kingdom. You will have to find a way to solve for that equation also. For starting the mining operations I can say that my Mother prefers people bring her solutions to problems rather than problems that need solutions. She does enough of those in the Tower with students."

Mikhel will wait for Tennyson to answer the Prince. He will formulate a response, as quickly as he can. GeDeCo wasn't going to be Mikhel's last choice. Sternmetal Horizons might be a one-stop solution, with less flexibility, harder negotiations and tighter margins. They would bring transport with them, likely. An independent coalition of belters could work, but they would have to bankroll the initial start-up. Consessions would need to be attractive. Transport might come with, or not. And is High Scholar Voha a route to the King, and a potential rough gauge for negotiations?

"Your Highness? I may need to speak to the Shlotisie family to get an outline of the capabilities of the facility, and what is needed to get it running." And Mikhel thinks to himself that they will need incentive to talk, if not participate. Mikhel wonders what to offer them.

Tenny slows her walk and thinks fast. What do I like about working here?? She suppresses an eyeroll. She knows the correct answer to this. And turns.

"Why I've not been here overlong. See, they asked me to take a peek at the life support systems a little while ago and, well. I just haven't been able to bring myself to leave! What I love is the travel, seeing new places and meeting new people! Yessir, the life on board the Pioneer is for me!" She offers a grin that she hopes is just disturbing enough for them to let her go.

(Harrick)"I think you do not understand how His Majesty works Mikhel. The facility is abandoned because there is no family to run it. Anyone who was there and participated in sending materials or resources out of the Kingdom were declared traitors and executed. Those who could reasonably known about the activities were banished to live with the Vesprex or to Asim. The facility there remains open for better or worse."

"My condolences, Your Highness. That makes getting info a bit difficult. Perhaps old records. However, it now looks like I will be departing the system well before I can do any good for this goal. If you would give this some thought on your side, there may be a faction arriving in a few weeks or a month, looking at starting up that mining facility, and getting things going. They won't necessarily be looking at benefiting Drinax, but they will likely be willing to pay something. Drinax may need to be ready to negotiate. A records search of what was supposed to be coming and going would give someone an idea of what the whole thing might be worth. And someone on Drinax should be armed with as much info as they can, if they want any success in negotiations with this outside group. It could be independent miners, but I'd bet on a corporation looking for a quick and easy take-over. Perhaps Sternmetal Horizons. They do have a facility at Torpol, and are shipping from there. Just a short hop here to pick up a load or two would be easy. Good luck."

"Wait! Did you say there were individuals banished to Asim? Any way they could regain favour with assistance to a new endeavor?"

(Harrick)"If someone appears in the Kingdom they will need approval from His Majesty to do anything, or it would be a declaration of war. If there is anyone still on Asim that would be interested in returning to Drinax in service of the Kingdom His Majesty might listen.

14:35 - The Pioneer Common Area

Everyone is gathered in the Common area again to bid farewell to the Royal visitors. Baron Hernández has laid out a spread for the Royal Family that the crew is jealous and appreciative of. Tenny notices he has experimented with some things that look to be new additions to the options. They wonder if that can be added to the normal fare for the crew.

SMASHING, JUST SMASHING! SOLIS YOU HAVE A FINE SHIP HERE, YOU ARE DOING EXCELLENT WORK. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING VOHA REVIEW YOUR UPCOMING WORK FROM ASIM. IN JUST A SHORT TIME WE WILL BE READY FOR POURNE AND CLARKE. WHATEVER RESOURCES YOU NEED YOU WILL HAVE.

(Lord Wrax)"Captain Solis, I look forward to hearing your reports of what you are building at Asim. As His Majesty has said, I am certain you will be laying a strong foundation for the expansion of the Kingdom."

(Princess Rao)"Thank you again Athena and Mikhel, Eleni, Sherris, and everyone. It was almost like a home coming. I hope I get to explore with you again."

(Eleni)"Princess it was an honor to have you on board again." Say the word and we will smuggle you out anytime you want." She winks at Lord Wrax.

(Harrick)"I can say that I am jealous that my sister was able to spend much more time here aboard the Pioneer than I have been able to. I am looking forward to visiting again when possible.

”Your Majesties,” says Athena, giving the collective a bow. “Although the tour was truncated, your appreciation is noted.” Turning to the Prince and Princess. “You are welcome on board at any time. I will keep you informed of our plans after Asim. Perhaps the opportunity will arise for one or both of you to join one of those expeditions. It may not be up to royal standards, but your old room can be reserved for you, Princess, if you’re feeling nostalgia.” After giving a small smile, she turns to Lord Wrax. “Your support and advice are appreciated, Lord Wrax. We may work on different ends of the spectrum, but it is together that we’ll bring about the foundation needed for the kingdom to flourish.” Clearing her throat slightly, and lowering her voice, she adds more quietly to Wrax, a slight, wry smile. “Such as information on Pourne and Clarke – but when the time comes. No need to get ahead of ourselves yet.”

Addressing the king with another, shorter bow, Athena continues, “And your support is, of certainty, most valued, Your Highness. I am confident in the work of The Pioneer and myself. We are quite familiar with the importance of communication in our work and will keep your staff updated with regular reports including any reasonable resource requests. Thank you for finding the time to tour today. It was an honor to show you around. Enjoy the spread, and please, take some with you before you leave if it gratifies you.”

Mikhel is prepared to ferry the Royal Family down to the Floating Palace, and stations himself in view of the proceedings, trying to be unobtrusive.

Once the Royal Family appears done with the offerings of the Galley, Mikhel conducts them to the spoke and the Voyager. "Your Majesty, and Highness-s, I will be pleased to fly you back to the Floating Palace. Is there anything else you'd like to do on the way, or just the straight flight back?"

Eleni helps Mikhel settle the royal family and guards in the Voyager. King Oleb sits up front in the co-pilot chair next to Mikehl. The others settle in for the short flight.

As the Voyager heads back to the Floating Palace, Mikhel allows the King to control the vessel for as much as the King is comfortable. Certainly, once the Voyager is backed out of the Spoke, and turned onto the flight path, there isn't much to hit, until on approach to the Royal Dock.

(Eleni)"Thank you Lord Wrax for the large data upload. We will look it over during jump and come up with some ideas along the way. We will look to see if there are any available ships to use for bringing in additional gear as needed. Hopefully the... exploratory team... will be able to find some rewards for us to use in rebuilding."

The Voyager completes the short trip before much more can be said. The group gets off the ship, Eleni standing at the foot of the steps watching everyone leave.

{after a short exchange on the docks}

Eleni comes back to the Voyager with a new female Aslan in tow carrying a small bag.

(Eleni)"Mikhel, this is Rao, yeah not that Roa, I know they look alike, winks "She is going to ship with us to Asim, apparently she lives there? lived there? We will figure out the details. She is going to be the new Steward, wonder if she can sing too?" a light laugh "Strap in Rao, let's get back home."

"Rao. And you can cook. There's a joke in there, somewhere.". Mikhel smiles and gives a quick short bow. Mikhel doesn't see an autoharp case, and the clothing, although well embroidered and of fine fabrics, is nothing like another Aslan female he's seen around the Floating Palace. This Aslan carries herself well, but not the same. More to learn. Different clans? "My knowledge of Aslan is not extensive. I hope we can learn from each other, and I don't inadvertently offend."

Rao nods and takes him in, noting his manners as well as the fact the he appears to be quite observant as well. "It's nice to meet you Mikhel, and I appreciate the kind welcome. I think you'll find me not easy to offend. I've spent a lot of time around people not accustomed to my kind, and I would not be well served by a thin skin." She looks around the space "Thank you for the passage, I hope you'll find my cooking acceptable. I find it relaxing, and a nice change of pace from working with computers. Although I enjoy that as well, of course [small chuckle]. Would you mind showing me where I might stow my gear? And then I'd love to check out your galley to see what I'll be working with.I'm eager to get started!"

"It will be a matter of a few minutes flight to the Pioneer before we get near the galley. If you can cook at all, it has to be better than my efforts. There is a stowage rack near your seat for your gear. Besides Taxi Driver, I also fill in as Ship's Medic, if you have any medical needs or concerns. If you settle in, I can get us up to the Pioneer."

17:30 - Voyager returns to the Pioneer and secures for departure

(Eleni)"Rao, We will get you settled into a stateroom first. I need to go get Tep and make sure they are ready to compute the jump to Asim. We are getting a later start in the day than we normally do so I imagine Captain Solis will be busy with things. Tomorrow will be a good time to meet the rest of the crew, do Mikhel's medic check, and find your way around the place. winks "If you wake early and make a nice breakfast with good coffee that will go a long way with the Captain."

(Eleni)"Mikhel I leave our new Steward in your capable hands, we should be at the jump point in a couple of hours."

(Rao)"Heard. And thanks for the tip, I think I can manage that." she nods and settles in

"If you are from Asim, you know better than me what would be of concern for visitors. And if you are just taking passage for a jump, you needn't provide medical scans. You are welcome to any medical service I can provide, should you wish. The Pioneer has provided me with excellent medical resources, including detailed Aslan physiology files, among others. So, any time in the next 6-ish days, I am available."

Rao and Mikhel have taken a short walk from the Spoke when Mikhel stops and points to a cabin door. "This is your cabin for the trip, Mikhel then to the right. "My office is a few doors down that way, and clearly marked. You can't miss it." Mikhel then points to the left. "That direction, past the Spoke where we came in, past the Bridge and a few more cabins, is the Galley. I apologize in advance for the smell. We have attempted to get rid of it, but the source eludes us."

Mikhel snaps his fingers and points at Rao. "Your heightened senses might assist us in finding that source? If the smell isn't too much for you? It may be necessary, if you are going to work there without a respirator mask."

"There is no health hazard, let me reassure you. That has been checked scrupulously. Your nose may tell you something different. Please advise if we need to take measures."

I believe I am in excellent health, but I appreciate your kind offer and will keep it in mind should need arise during out journey. Thank you for your help in finding my way. I think a malodorous galley is deeply problematic for a number of reasons. Not least of which is that I've agreed to work there. I will use all tools in my arsenal to discover the cause as quickly as possible. Should I need help with the solution should I ask you, or would that be the purview of another crew member?"

"My responsibility is actually the Health and Safety aspect. I do the testing, and ensure things on the ship meet minimum regulations. So, I can say that there isn't a safety concern. To fix the problem, we have tried to chase it down, and the last attempt suggested an overhaul at a maintenance facility. I think, if you have suggestions, that Engineer Tennyson would be the person to contact, and I would be called in to test the results. The actual fix will be in Engineer Tennyson's hands."

"Thanks Mikhel. I'll drop my bag and head that way to look around. Maybe do a little prep for breakfast. If I'm going to be up in time to make said breakfast in time I should probably bunk early as well. Goodnight!"

"Sync your PDA to the ship to ensure you are on ship time. Please note that there is supposed to be a morning meeting of staff heads at Zero Six Hundred. Depending on individual preferences, coffee and some type of food is ingested around that time. I have observed that scientists, especially on this ship, don't keep anything like a 'daily' schedule. Time tends to be extremely fluid, and science is the priority. Welcome to the Pioneer, and pleasant dreams."

Calendar

1105-001 -- 1105-002 -- 1105-003

Timing of events
09:00 - The Royal Inspection of the V'Hurg
11:00 - The Royal visit to the Pioneer
12:00 - The V'Hurg departs for the jump point

At 08:45 the V'Hurg arrives at the Royal Docks taking the space that was recently vacated by the Ship of Unity. As Sultana, Harison, Silas, and Iskavrin stand by watching it arrive they notice two points of damage. One is the Ventral Turret is damaged, there is a hole through it making it unusable. The other is the holographic hull on the starboard side does not seem to be activated.

Shortly after the Harrier touches down the Royal Hawk Guards open the airlock and King Oleb, Lord Wrax, Princess Rao, and Prince Harrick walk out onto the docks. Lord Wrax walks up to the airlock on the Harrier, gives his scan and the hatch opens.

(Lord Wrax)"Just a moment your Majesty, I will bring out the key to reset this to add you to the list. He looks over at Sultana,"I will add you, Admiral Harison and Iskavrin to the list after His Majesty. Did you want anyone else?"

(King Oleb)MOVE IT ALONG WRAX, I WANT TO SEE THIS BEAUTY, YOU WON'T LET ME FLY IT SO I WANT TO GET A GOOD LOOK AT THINGS." He looks over at one of the guards, GO FETCH MARGARET BLAINE FROM HER CHAMBERS, SHE WILL WANT TO BE HERE FOR THIS

Sultana indicates Silas Lane to Lord Wrax. "Assuming I have the ability to add more to the list, the four of us will be sufficient for now, thank you."

Silas nodded his appreciation to Sultana, a greedy grin playing across his face as he ogled the Harrier. "A thing of beauty is made more special by its marks and blemishes." He stroked the hull with reverential awe.

Lord Wrax descends back to the docks with a small pad. He holds it up for the King.

(Lord Wrax)"Here you are Your Majesty." He takes a small DNA sample. Then he turns to the four of you and takes a sample. As this is happening Margaret comes out with two small bags. Lord Wrax nods to her and deliberately stops the collection scan so she is not part of it.

"Well, Ms Margaret let me give you a hand with those bags and we find you a room I believe there are 4 nice big state rooms I say the four of us will each take one but you can have mine for as long as your on the ship. It will give you some privacy from this bit of a boys club. Let’s go pick out the best one shall we?" Harison takes her bags and gesture for her to head in first.

(King Oleb)MOVE ALONG WRAX. King Oleb walks up into the ship and heads directly to the pilot's chair. Sultana and crew follow him in. King Oleb wraps his fingers on the back of the pilot's chair. Sultana hears a soft sigh. YOU KNOW I SHOULD TAKE THIS CHAIR SULTANA, I ENVY YOU, TO BE OUT THERE, OUT AMONG THE STARS, DAMN IT, YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL, WE HAVE PEOPLE TO FEED. DAMN IT. King Oleb stands up, grabs Sultana by the shoulders and SHOVES him down into the Pilot's chair. MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY TO GO CAPTAIN. IF YOU ARE NOT OFF MY DOCKS IN THIRTY MINUTES I AM TAKING CONTROL OF THIS BEAUTY MYSELF

Mikhel tries desperately to not shake his head. This POS may have been a beauty once, but it isn't now. Even with the money to fix it, where would they take it for the repairs? The nearest TL15 shipyard is Theev or Tobia. Hope Blaine has an 'in' with Theev.

Sultana gazes up at the King looming over him. "I think we're as ready as we're going to be, Your Highness. The crew just needs to move their personal effects over, and I imagine we'll want the cargo out of my Suraksha. We can sell it for a little bit of operating capital." He looks over at the others. "Dawn? Drax-Amarinth? Lane? Are we in agreement, or is there something else we need to do first?"

Two weapon systems on the ship, and one obviously useless. Good privateer ship. Camouflage system is partially funtional, although obviously good enough to fool military-grade sensors. At least from one direction. So, we aren't getting a tour of this tub, nor a run-down on its condition? Stars, I glad I'm not leaving on it.

(Iskavrin) Iskavrin is present, and around.

Sultana gazes around at the panels and display and ostentatious bridge decorations, far more decorated than what he was used to on most Imperium ships. Although, as a mere Lieutenant, he didn't get to visit all that many flagship bridges. Perhaps they were all as overdone as this one. He liked his comforts on the Suraksha, his personal boat, but those were more like quarters than working space, and were tailored to his specifications.

"Well, you all heard the King's order. XO, go and get your packs. We'll rendezvous with the Pioneer to transfer Lane and Dawn's personal effects on our way out. I will go and collect mine and oversee the transfer of my cargo. We will debark as soon as possible, Your Highness, if there's nothing else you wish to show or tell us."

He stands back up out of the captain's chair. "Thank you again for entrusting us with this. We'll do our absolute best to make it a raging success."

"I am content to move on, troubleshoot as we go." Silas inspected the holographic pilot's controls, before powering up the astrogation station. "Think you can work with this?" he sub-vocalised to Vix, his ever present companion.

Vix snapped back, quick and wry as usual, but only heard by Silas, "Oh sure, I can work with the old clanker's systems, just like a drunk Vargr can work with a zero-G ballroom. Expect a lot of spinning, some panicked yelping, and an occasional hard reboot!"

Silas chuckled out loud, before running a quick subroutine to ensure the station was going to work at all. He grunted and sighed, "Enough time for this when I'm irrevocably onboard... Shall we fire her up and uh... board the Pioneer, Captain?" indicating the pilot's chair, he grinned gormlessly and rested a hand on his scabbarded cutlass.

As the group looks over the bridge, Mikhel maneuvers to stand beside Princess Rao. A small whisper to her, "Princess. What think you of the possibility of a remote station in the Drinax system for maintaining the V'hurg? Possibly under the guise of an asteroid mining endeavour?"

(Rao)"That is not a bad idea, it lends a certain air of avoidability that His Majesty will like. I think that my Brother would be the better person to help you implement that, you will need assistance from the Scholar's Tower. Perhaps ask on the Pioneer when we tour there. I am looking forward to seeing her again. She is one of the favorites that I have managed to spend time on during a non-supervised trip."

Mikhel lets his puzzlement show. "Hmmm... Perhaps my approach was off. The Prince didn't seem receptive to my first attempt to get information about the mining facility. I am considering approaching the Shlotisie family to get their point of view, and perhaps familiarity with past operations." Mikhel puts on a wry smile. "I'm going into this blind, but there could be an opportunity to repair relationships, as well as financial benefits. If the transgressions weren't too egregious?"

The send off group heads back down through the airlock.

Sultana, Silas, Harison, Iskarin standing on the bridge as Sultana lifts off for the first time. Out the cockpit windows you can see the honor guard of Royal Hawk Warriors salute your departure.

Silas gets to work on the Astrogation rolls for the trip to Torpol.

Rao paces back and forth, waiting a bit impatiently for the Ambassador, Baroness of Algra-Reev, to arrive. An Aslan, she is dressed in simple garb, nothing that would stand out in any way. A small bag at her feet, her face is nonchalant if her pacing is not. She glances at her watch, and then at the guards who are paying her no mind. She is just a moment early still, but waiting has never been easy for her. She stops, takes a breath, smiles at the closest guard. She leans casually against the wall to wait with the perfect appearance of calm patience.

(Royal Hawk Guard)"Are you waiting for someone? All the off worlders are gone now."

(Siya Rao) "I'm meant to be meeting the Ambassador from Asim, she has made arrangements for me to return there by taking passage with those off worlders. I assume their shuttle will be docking here? I am just a little early"

she smiles gently at the guard

(Royal Hawk Guard)"Fine. Please remain out of the way as needed"

the Baroness arrives with an air of confidence, and spots Rao right away

(Baroness)"Oh good, you are here already. I have such a busy day. Still, I'm glad to help arrange simple passage home for you Rao. You are overdue, and your skills are sorely needed on Asim. I know your family will be pleased to have you back as well."

"The Pioneer is a lab ship, and they are willing to allow you to travel with them such a short distance as a matter of goodwill. I believe they may have some dealings on our homeworld? (dismissively) At any rate they will take you, and save the trouble of finding passage elsewhere. I understand they depart today, and that their shuttle should be along at some point, so it's likely best to wait here. Do you need anything else?"

"No. Thank you for your help. I am looking forward to being useful. If I can be of any aid please don't hesitate to let me know."

The Baroness departs and Rao resumes her stance, waiting quietly against the wall.

15:00 - Royal Docks

Finally after an almost three hour wait Rao sees the Voyager arriving from the Pioneer.

The hatch opens and King Oleb floats down, followed by Lord Wrax, the Prince, the Princess and the Royal Guards. A woman standing at the bottom of the stairs starts to go back into the ship when the Princess lays a hand on her arm, telling her to wait.

RAO, WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT HERE, DID YOUR STUDENTS NOT RETURN TO CLASS TODAY? (Princess Rao)"Your Majesty, I am certain Rao has some students who are anxious for their most challenging teacher to return. Let me talk with my friend before you drag us all into another all afternoon meeting."

Princess Rao moves over to let the rest of the Royal Party pass, Lord Wrax gives a slight frown as he passes the female Aslan.

(Princess Rao)"If you are here, that means you must want to be going somewhere, and given where the Pioneer is heading I have a good guess." Princess Rao guestures over to Eleni to call her over towards the entrance to the Palace.

Eleni walks over with a smile on her face. (Eleni)"If we are smuggling you out already this does not look like a good body double for you Princess."

Princess Rao laughs lightly, the female Aslan gives a gentle snort of amusement (Princess Rao)"I have known Rao all my life, at least as far as I can remember. Yes, the names are confusing, but it did work wonders when I was .... adventuring around the Palace and could convince people to say that yes they saw Rao in two places at once..." Princess Rao gives a small nod of her head to the Aslan, "May I introduce Eleni, the XO of the Pioneer and someone I fully trust with your safety. Eleni this is Rao, one of the best Computer Instructors at the Scholar's Tower. She is from Asim, and needs a ride there. I am certain you will get along." with a quick bow of her head to both of you. "Now I have to go chase after Lord Wrax before he .... " She trails off as she exits the Royal Docks with all but two of the remaining Royal Guards.

(Eleni)" Rao and Rao, that can't be confusing at all in a royal court. How can we help you?"

(Siya Rao)with a smile, and a small chuckle, "Honestly, it was less confusing than you'd think. I have rarely been important enough to warrant great discussion, so references are assumed to be to the Princess in most occasions. I am hoping I might be allowed passage on your ship, as I'm given to understand you are heading to my homeworld of Asim. Baroness of Algra-Reev, my Ambassador said she had made some arrangements in this regard? Perhaps something was lost in the rush and chaos inherent in visits from the Royal Family." She gestures to her small bag, "If you have space available I would appreciate your help in this. I don't take up a great deal of space, and am more than happy to help out during the journey to earn my keep if that would be welcomed. My primary skills lie in working with computers, but I dabble in a bit of cookery as well. I have been known to work wonders with a simple larder, especially if anyone on board has a bit of a sweet tooth. I do think the Ambassador would be grateful." Sheeplishly, "I'm afraid my family thinks me overdue for a visit, and has been taking up too much of her time in an effort to speed my travels."

[SKILL] Persuade (2D+12)(vs Difficulty 8)natural roll 5 for a total of 17 [ +9 Effect] [Exceptional SUCCESS]

(Eleni)Raised eyebrow, "Well we can always use a hand that is not doing research. Steward is something no one else wants to do so you can have that as long as you are on board. If you teach computers maybe we can have you look at some of our systems after the Captain approves. Mikhel is our acting pilot and medic and not sure what else he will need to handle. We had three of our crew depart here at the Floating Palace. Replacing them is not practical here I see. Grab your bag and let's get going. When we are on the Pioneer you can get more details. Never had an Aslan on board in the last twenty years, this might be interesting."

{after a short exchange on the docks}
